New colour:
Transparent red oxide
A warm earthtone useful for glazing techniques. Transparent
red oxide along with transparent yellow oxide are both ideal
for desaturating transparent pigments such as the phthalos
and quinacridones without diminishing their transparency.
Their transparency allows subtle, warm undertones to be
visible, creating more complex colours than their opaque
equivalents.
The Sienna pigments available today tend to be more opaque
than those available in the past. This means that transparent
red oxide and transparent yellow oxide can be seen as closer
equivalents to historical raw and burnt siennas than today’s
usually more opaque sienna pigments.

New lids for 125ml glass jars
We have replaced the metal lids on our 125ml size glass
jars with plastic lids.
This change will mean fewer problems with stuck lids. Acrylic
paint does not adhere to this plastic as easily as it does
to metal. Stuck lids can be best avoided by keeping the
threads of the jar free of paint. If a stuck lid is still
a problem, the best way to loosen the paint stuck between
the threads of the jar and the lid is to immerse the jar
in hot water, or to run a stream of hot water over the edge
of the lid. This will soften the paint film and should allow
it to stretch and release the lid.

October 2004 - November 2004
Eastside Culture Crawl
The Eastside Culture crawl is an annual event featuring
the studios of over 200 artists and craftspeople that live
in Vancouver’s Eastside. Our warehouse space is in
Unit 240 on the upper floor of the Mergatroid building,
985 Vernon Drive, on the corner of Vernon Drive and Parker
St. (The same building is home to Joe Blow’s glass
blowing studio.) During the rest of the year we use this
space for the storage of dry pigments and packaging and
to do the first stages of paint production. But for the
weekend of the culture crawl we open our doors to the public
and invite you to try our paint and to find out more about
us.
We will be open again for the next culture crawl, which
this year, 2005, will be held on November 18th to 20th.
